Half term holidays

Toby has been off school this week which has been great. We had a meeting with Chrissie at the hat shop, she commissioned Toby to make 8 pieces of jewellery, so he has been busy making those. Yesterday we went to Leeds for the day on the train and saw the Leonardo da Vinci exhibition at the City Art Gallery, and also went on a hunt for unusual chains and beads. While we were out my AD from Disney emailed me to say that all my Eeyore illustrations were now in Clintons, on cards, plush, calendars, so go have a look! bad timing, we could have done that in Leeds, there isnt a Clintons in our small town of Todmorden.

Braid and friends

I recently bought these lovely glass buttons, and flower braid, at my local antiques 'place' www.picturehouseantiques.co.uk .

Wall Hanging

Here is Toby's work in progress, it's a wall hanging. In the top photo you can see detail, where he has been experimenting with his sewing machine, trying out new stitches and patchwork. He has punched holes with eyelets to hang toys buttons and beads using hemp thread. In the second photo you can see the whole thing hanging on our kitchen wall. Lastly more detail, small plastic bulls hanging down. I cant wait to see it finished!

Society of Secret Fairies

Yesterday we received the most marvelous present from a member of the s.o.s.f. An enormous parcel arrived in the post from America, but I couldnt open it, which was SO annoying !! I had to wait till Toby came home from school as we are doing this together. Anyway, as soon as he got in, we tore open the box to find this amazing array of presents, each one encased in a beautiful handmade fabric bag. You can see in the photo's firstly the lovely bags, then the goodies, then a plate full of handmade choc chip cookies, and last of all a bag a buttons! After opening all these wonderful gifts we read the letter, telling us about them all, so kind, had me in tears (dont tell anyone - I am hard really!) BIG THANK YOU !! www.smalltownrambling.blogspot.com
(Laurence, Toby and I, have eaten nearly all of the cookies already, they are delicious, there are only 2 left!

My latest photoshoppings

This is my most recent artwork. It was done on 'Adobe Photoshop' and it's made up of lots of different layers of textures and right at the bottom is a 'yellow tartan cotton ladies jumper' that i downloaded from a vintage clothing site. I've been thinking about trnsferring some images off photoshop onto some white cloth and using it in some of my patchworks (i will put my patchwork on the blog when (if) it gets finished)

WEBSITE !!

Have a look at our new website: www.naturalattrill.co.uk Toby and I designed the layout and colours, brown paper, buttons, fonts etc. Toby created the sheep image in photoshop, adorning it with his jewellery and elongating its legs! Our friend Yvonne did the tech side and put it all together for us. We are not putting it onto search engines, just hoping that people we know will buy some, so please pass the link on to your friends!

Manchester

Last week Toby had a school inset day (so he didnt have to go in), so I took a day off work and we went to Manchester, to the city art gallery, to see a textile exhibition http://www.manchestergalleries.org/whats-on/exhibitions/index.php?itemID=14 There were a couple of huge bean bags in the middle of the gallery floor to sit on. I sat on one for ages gazing up at all the scarves hanging from the ceiling. Toby was inspired and filled his sketch book with lots of ideas, it's nearly full up now! In the gallery shop Toby found this (pic above) beautiful new sketch book which he bought for himself.
We had a lovely day together, ending up with noodles at Wagamama's.

Hat shop sale

We went to Hebden Bridge last weekend with a selection of jewellery and called into a hat shop, on the off chance, thinking perhaps they might like to stock some of Toby's bracelets. The lady owner and maker was very friendly, has taken our details and says she will get back to us. She was talking of buying pieces from us, not sale or return, which is good, and also possibly giving us buttons, to make bracelets which colour co ordinate with her hats. We will have to wait and see.

In the above hat shop, was the lady owners friend, who bought a matching necklace, earing, and bracelet set, made from vintage beads, shells, handmade fimo beads, and buttons, all knotted together. Toby walked out of the shop with a cheque for £50! so we went to the organic house cafe for tea (and elder flower drink for Toby) and cake to celebrate!
